A camera designed to recognise how many passengers are travelling in a car is to be tested in West Yorkshire.
The Dtect camera will monitor the car-share lane of the A647 Stanningley Road near Leeds for three days to see how many people are travelling in vehicles.
The camera is designed to spot lone drivers using the car-share lane
The trial, which starts on Thursday, aims to show that the camera can accurately detect lone drivers illegally using the two-plus lane.
The trial results will not be used to prosecute drivers, the council said.
The camera is the result of a research project between Loughborough University and Leeds City Council.
