The Briton came through 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) but now faces a nervous wait until Thursday's evening match between Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro to see if he has qualified from the four-man group. Any win for Federer will take Murray through but a straight-sets win for Del Potro would put the Scot out, while a three-set win for Del Potro would see it come down to the percentage of games won by Murray, Federer and Del Potro.

Westwood shot a course record 64 to finish on 23 under par and win by six shots from Ross McGowan. The winner's prize of almost £740,000 saw Westwood, who won the Order of Merit title back in 2000, clinch the Race to Dubai ahead of Rory McIlroy.

Wigan took a large following to White Hart Lane for the defeat, the second heaviest in Premier League history. Defoe scores his second goal during Spurs' 9-1 win "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday," said Wigan captain Mario Melchiot via the official club website. "This is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their loyalty." clipped from news.bbc.co.uk Scotland's brilliant defence left the normally lethal Australians impotent Scotland ended a 16-match losing run against Australia as an awesome defensive performance set up victory over the Wallabies at Murrayfield. Australia dominated territory and possession but it was 3-3 at the break as Scotland fly-half Phil Godman cancelled out a Matt Giteau penalty. A Godman penalty and Chris Paterson drop-goal saw Scotland edge ahead. And although Ryan Cross went over for an injury-time try, Giteau's missed conversion handed the Scots victory.
